World Kindness Day at Nestlings Nursery

Teaching little hands and big hearts the meaning of kindness

Today, on World Kindness Day, we’re celebrating one of the most important values we nurture here at Nestlings Nursery - kindness. For us, kindness isn’t just a one-day theme; it’s part of everyday life in our nurseries. From gentle sharing at playtime to helping a friend put on their coat, our children learn that small acts of kindness create a big difference in their world.

At Nestlings, we talk about kindness in simple, meaningful ways children can understand. We use the phrase “kind hands” to help them learn how to play safely, touch gently, and respect others’ space. When we remind a child to “use kind hands,” we’re guiding them to think before they act - to choose gentleness, cooperation, and care.

Kindness also means:

  • Taking turns with toys

  • Saying “please” and “thank you”

  • Comforting a friend who’s upset

  • Helping tidy up together

  • Celebrating everyone’s differences

These moments might seem small, but they help shape confident, empathetic children who will grow into caring, respectful adults.

Our practitioners model kindness constantly, through tone of voice, the way we support one another, and how we talk about feelings. We celebrate kind choices with praise and positive reinforcement, such as:

“That was very kind of you to share,” or “You made your friend smile. Well done for using kind hands.”

Children learn most powerfully by seeing kindness in action so we make sure it’s at the heart of every part of the Nestlings day.

To celebrate World Kindness Day, our Nestlings children took their kindness out into the community, delivering handmade kindness cards to our neighbours and sharing their warm little smiles along the way.

It was a joy to see how proud they were to brighten someone’s day with a simple message of kindness and a cheerful hello. Moments like these remind us that even the smallest hands can make a big impact.

At Nestlings, kindness isn’t just something we teach, it’s something we try to do throughout our days. Our wonderful team pour so much love and care into every child, so today they each received a little comfort gift from me, just a small gesture to remind them that they are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.

A kind word or thoughtful token can mean the world, and our team deserve to feel the same warmth they give to others every day.

In a world where we all move so fast, it’s easy to forget that kindness is a superpower. At Nestlings, we believe teaching kindness early helps children build the empathy and emotional intelligence they’ll need for school, friendships, and life. So today, and every day, we’ll be celebrating our children’s kind hearts and reminding them (and ourselves!) that being kind is always something to be proud of.

At Nestlings Nursery, kindness grows here - one gentle hand, one warm heart, and one thoughtful act at a time.
